Thanks to Director Phil McCarty and producer Phree Swearingen, we can now report that “The Learning Curve” will be screened at the 5th Annual Lady Filmmakers Film Festival, at the Charles Aidikoff Theater in Beverly Hills. The 16 minute short film starring Matthew Gray Gubler will be part of Film Program #6, 11:30 am Sunday September 29th. Tickets for Program #6 are just $10.00 and can be purchased by clicking here. VIP tickets for $75.00 for the entire festival are also on sale at the same link.

The short film, is an adaptation of a story entitled “The Learning Curve” by author David Sedaris. It can be found in his collection of essays entitled “Me Talk Pretty One Day”. Matthew plays Sedaris as he recalls his job teaching a writing workshop while being highly unqualified.

In this weeks issue of Las Vegas Weekly, they take a look at  Las Vegas Academy Of The Arts, which celebrated it’s 20th Anniversary this year. They discuss it’s early days and how students were discouraged from attending. One of their most famous graduates, Matthew Gray Gubler from Criminal Minds adds his take on the scare tactics used to dissuade incoming students.

Criminal Minds actor and LVA alumnus Matthew Gray Gubler remembers rumors about the school’s accreditation and how graduates wouldn’t get into college, presumably to dissuade students from attending. “The only time people use scare tactics is when they’re scared of something doing better than them,” Gubler says.

Over the past couple weeks, numerous pictures of Matthew Gray Gubler have surfaced showing our favorite Gube posing with fans. Never one to be shy, Matthew has made it clear just how much he loves his fans and has no qualms about giving everybody just a little bit of his time. You can tell by the look on his face how much he enjoys the time he spends with each and every one. Here’s a quote from the man himself on what his fans mean to him:

“I’m the luckiest person in the world because besides having the best, most loving, most awesome, and most unique family, friends, and coworkers in the world, I also happen to have the best, most loving, most awesome and most unique fans in the world. I can’t begin to describe how blessed i am. They are so much more than fans they are “fands” (fans/friends). 
I’ve never understood the notion of shunning or acting “too cool” for fans. I know, and occasionally work with, actors who seem to think it is beneath them to take 5 seconds to stop and sign an autograph or even shake hands with their admireres. To do that, you really have to be filled with a lot of self-hate and insecurity. An actors job is to entertain, how can you resent, or look down on the very people that find you entertaining? It would be like being a birthday clown who gets hired, goes to the party, shouts insults at the kids, and then kicks all the dads in the crotch. If you have the ability to make someone’s day by giving them a moment of your time DO IT!” -Matthew Gray Gubler

As we reported here, “The Learning Curve” will be screened at the Lady Filmmakers Film Festival at 11:30 am September 29th. Tickets for that event are still available and can be purchased here. Today, Writer/Director Phil McCarty announced that it will also be shown at the DVExpo on September 26th at 3pm, at the LA Convention Center. The screening is free, and directions to the Convention Center can be found here.
